Our work
What does Trees for the Future do?
Trees for the Future (TREES) partners with farmers across Africa to restore degraded land and unlock prosperity through regenerative farming. Farmers bring generational knowledge of their land; TREES brings regenerative farming expertise and decades of learning. Together, we design farms abundant in food, income, resilience, and pride.
What is regenerative farming?
Regenerative farming blends diverse trees, plants, and crops to restore the health of soil, biodiversity, and ecosystems over time. The approach also captures carbon and improves harvests. Every farmer custom-designs their own farm — most combine timber lots, fruit trees, permagardens, living fences, composting, and an on-farm nursery.
Where does TREES work?
Our projects center on the Lake Victoria region of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania — one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable farming regions. Farmers there are showing everyone that farmer-led restoration works, and if it can happen there, it can happen anywhere.
Why focus on farmers?
33 million smallholder farmers produce 80% of Africa’s food, much of it grown on degraded land with few tools and little support. Farmers know the land better than anyone, so lasting change starts with them.
When farmers succeed, everyone benefits: restored soil grows more food, surpluses become income, each farm builds a healthier microclimate, and biodiversity returns to the land.
Donations & giving
How does my donation help?
Give $1 or give $10,000 — every contribution helps farmers restore land and build thriving farms. Donations fund farmer training, seedlings raised in on-farm nurseries, and the hands-on support that turns degraded fields into productive, resilient farms.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Trees for the Future is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States, so donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You’ll receive a receipt for your records, and our Financials page has the documentation your tax adviser may need.
Can I give monthly?
Yes — the Canopy Collective is our monthly giving community. Recurring gifts provide the steady, predictable support that lets farmers plan seasons ahead.
What other ways can I give?
Choose from a buffet of giving options: one-time donations and fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, strategic partnerships, and legacy gifts made through your will or estate plan. The Show Support menu has the full list — pick whatever fits you best.
